no作定语，可以修饰可数（单数或复数）或不可数名词，相当于not any或not a： He had no money on him. 他身上没带钱。

no与其所修饰的名词一起放在be后作表语，意为“绝不是，绝非”，语气很强。而not a或not any只表示一般的否定意义。试对比： He is no fool. 他绝不是个傻子。 He is not a fool. 他不是个傻子。

no与动名词连用表示“不许，禁止”，常用于标语、口号、招牌等： No smoking! 禁止抽烟！ No parking! 禁止停车！
